Ladies...

I do believe we are up and running!

Let me be the first to congratulate Kerry-Ann Reid on a novel idea, pardon the pun.
It was Ms. Reid's idea to start a book club that featured Caribbean authors, a concept which grew to include African-American writers as well. A million emails and one impromptu brunch later, we are seven strong and growing.
It's great when as women, we can come together with our ideas in hand, to meet and dialogue on books chosen to enlighten and inspire, and in doing so, develop much needed perspective. The literary legacy that black writers have left us should not be ignored. As we sift through the Zanes and the Mcmillans to find the Baldwins, Whites, and Angelous, we hope to grow, change our way of thinking, and the way we interact with others. Through lively debate, we learn not only about our sisters, but also ourselves. May we all leave this forum a little more informed, a little more cognizant and a lot more conscious.
Salute!
